bald tires OK for 1/4?

So my tires are pretty much shot. I was thinking it would be cool to get 1 more 1/4 out of them to see if they give more grip w/o any grooves

Also they are about as light as they will ever be

Will I get grief from tech if I dont have any tread?

probably not...as long as you dont have wires sticking out...some guy had them sticking out of his tires and was like i just drove 40 miles and they held up...they wouldnt let him race...just get some new tires and not have to worry about grief

They will work just fine. I ran my best times ever on bald (totally smooth on the inside edge) tires. As long as there is no cord showing they will be fine, and I doubt tech will have a problem with it either.

I was actually gonna ask a similar question. my rear tires have much less tread than the fronts (rotated for the winter) and I was gonna swap them back to the front in hopes of better traction. Guess it wouldnt hurt to try. Gonna be hittin the track for the first time since last summer in a few days (hopefully). Gotta try a few things to make me faster!

I was driving for probably way too long on totally bald tires.. with the wires showing on the inside edge ( I didnt notice because it was the inside edge and since then fixed the alignment problem) but ... Traction in the rain was horrific, I literally was sliding all over the place.. I should have kept the tire as a trophy so to speak.. I'm actually suprised it was holding air. You should be fine for a few 1/4 mile passes though, just don't do any huge burnouts.

im in the same boat. i bought a set of used tires, so i can replace my really bald current tires... however, i dont want to ruin the new-ish tires on the track.

after i do a couple track runs, im gonna go RUIN those tires in my school parking lot :P
