Finally made it to the track! and DRAMA!

Wellll, I finally thought I had broken in the clutch enough to make it to find out what kind of 1/4 time I can pull. I swear that question had been burning a hole in my friggin head for about 9 months.

So I make it to the track, get there about 3:00 - half hour early.. and I decide to go WOT to see if the clutch holds (doesnt slip)
Erg! Well, it slips. I figure screw it, I drove 120 miles to get to the track, Im gonna pay my 20 bucks and see wtf happens.

Long story short, man- it was tough! The first run I was not going WOT because I didnt want to lose the clutch's traction.
got a 15.330 @ 93.23 MPH with a 2.6 60' and a .231 R/T (not too bad for my first ever run, thanks to the forum advice on launchin...)

Next time I figured, screw it, Im going WOT to see what the difference is.
The clutch was all over the friggin place and it looked like it was going to hit the rev limiter a couple times. Friggin frenzy!! but got a 15.051 at 90.97mph

The next run was the most interesting one of the nite, and it was my best run of the night. Im bummed kinda because the clutch held up until about 1/2 way through 3rd gear. If it had held I think I was looking at a decent time!
Check it out: you guys probably can diagnose how much better I might have done w/ a solid clutch based on my 1/8 time right? It looked good I think- anyways enough jabber heres the ticket numbers:

1/4 14.823
MPH 89.40 (LOL!)

Long story short I got 3 more runs in in the bracket drag. And by some miracle the clutch started grabbing!!! I guess a few *****-slaps got it into working order finally

On the actual bracket drags, I didnt drive that well, but I lucked out... first one the guy redlights, the 2nd the guy runs faster than his dialed # by .003 (OMG felt guilty) and then snoozed on the tree in the last run- got distracted by the other car launching before me.. trippy... Anyways, I got 15.1,14.9, 14.884 @ 93.96. My 60' times pretty much were not good- thats definately where I need to improve.

So, thats the deal. I cant wait to try again because I know I can do better once I can launch w/o spinning and maybe get a 2.1?? Anyways, it looks like the best I can hope for is about a 14.4 if everything goes right. Infineon is interesting though, the track kinda looks like it runs uphill!!! Anyways, comments and feedback are most welcome.

If if get a 6.2x 330' and a 9.4x 1/8 mile then my 1/4 ET is usually around 14.5-14.6. My times may not good to use since we have different types of mods.

Good stuff Spaniard, most guys never get to the track and if they do its just test and tune not competition, you got it all on the same night.

The brackets are much more fun than T&T, lots of head games played there.

Can't help you much on your runs, I run an auto so much different game.

Regardless, your doin great.

hey jime... how do u get such good 60' times with ur auto? i've only been able to get a 2.3.. and i've tried everything!!! maybe it's cuz of my stock potenzas ... and also our track is known to be a 1/4 mile killer.... but still.... u got any pointers?

spaniard congrats on the runs. A 2.2 60 is pretty dang good your first time out ! How did you like drag racing ? Enough to keep at it ? Did the UR flywheel present any noticable problems with launching and keep the revs up while shifting. something, i have been wondering about?

Well, I thought it was pretty darn cool, actually. I like everything very much from the point of going on deck to getting my timeslip!!
Unfortunately, there was over an hour wait to go again and that wait was kinda tough. Still, no complaints- they ran alot of cars. And some motorcycles!

I want to keep at it, sure!! I wanna post a 14.4xx !!!
About the flywheel, well, I dont have many launches to compare it to but it seemed not a problem to get the revs where I wanted at the tree. I guess if the perfect launch with my car involves dropping the clutch from, say, 2300 RPM then I am going to have to learn to apply the right amount of gas while dropping. I think thats gonna be pretty tough with the light flywheel. Keeping the revs up while shifting- well, I was having a bit of a biznatch with the shifting/clutch so again Ill let you know- probably wednesday after this. I can say this though- the revs do not drop that fast in general when engaging the clutch so I would tend to say that probably will not be a problem. I also figure that my revs will drop even slower when I get the right motor oil in there (currently got 5/50 ! and want to get 0/20 or 5/20 synthetic)

I gotta say 1/4 mileing is alot tougher than I tought it was going to be. Launching is truly a fine art!!
I figure I still definately need to work on:

1) Tire pressure
2) No spinning at launch
3) Shift points(with 50 aspect tires... I was taking it to 7K in 2nd..oops?)
4) Whether or not to shift to 4th (w/7k redline)
5) R/T of course (although I did luck into a .092... now I cant remember how I did that)
6) Getting to the track with 1.5 gallons of gas in the tank
7) Stuff that wont even occur to me until I get my shiite straight in 1-6.

to sum up: 1/4 mileing is rad and tough!

Since you don't have the MEVI and after looking at your dyno graphs, your shift points should roughly be (as indicated on the tach):

1-2 7000rpms
2-3 6600rpms
3-4 6200rpms

I wouldn't run at the track on fumes. Run with a crack under a 1/4 tank if possible. On a hard launch and hard shifts, you don't want so little fuel in your tank that your fuel pump starves for fuel. That's no a good thing.

Keep practicing, get the 60 foots a little lower, and pray the clutch holds. I think your clutch is probably slipping in 3rd even on some of your better passes. I don't think a 14.4 is out of the question with some good traction (2.20 or less), good shifting, and a happy clutch.
