there has to be that first time. finally!

well, I finally went to local dragway in Palmdale, CA. I was with my friends from work (one had '02 Camaro SS, other 02-03 Carrera, and the other one decided not to take his car). So, what can I say. It is my first time and the numbers can tell you that that's not my best time lol. Best run was... 16.203 @ 85.248. 60' - 2.531. Yep, that's bad. Btw, it a 5spd 2000GXE with heavy @s$ 18's. I took out the spare, the rear seat and some other stuff. However, I left my PC and my amp in the car, but the worst factor was that the track is 2,710 ft above sea level. So if we do some calculations to correct the numbers, it comes out to be:
15.717 @ 87.805. The dam 60' is what messed me up. Can't launch the thing properly. Best 60' was 2.374. So it is possible, just need more practice. Oh well. Buttom line is - a lot of fun. Did abut 10 runs. Beat a new Civic SI, older Civic hatch, and something else. Lost to my friends Camaro (twice), to the Carrera guy and to GODD@MN FAST STI (13.35). Btw, my best run was against the STI. It's a really nice car! I also lost to the previous body SI with an intake and exhaust. That run I did 17.4 seconds cuz I spun through first gear completely. Anyway, the Civic did 16.5xx, so I didn't feel that bad
So now I just gotta get rid of my 18's and get some lightweght 17's on it.

To conclude all this: when I look at those time, even I start laughing at myself...

P.S. I saw another Maxima there (4th gen) and talked to the guy really quick. He said he was 5spd, all stock and pushed ~15.9 or something. Unfortunately I couldn't talk longer and had to go. So if you're on this board post your times!

couple of things to consider:
-spinning in 1st gear (throttle modulation, don't just mash it)
-experiment with launch rpms, I usually blip it around 2000-2500 rpm and release the clutch
-tire pressure (try it at like 32 psi next time)

It doesn't matter what you run because its still fun. My first time was at irwindale 1/8 track with my old 2k1 auto. Ran a 10.12 on my third run and final run to beat a firebird.

yea man, you're 100% right, sometimes the times just don't matter. I shoulda played more with the car but then too many people showed up in the end, and there wasn't enough time. and yes, I floored it completely when spun through first gear. hopefully next time i go (maybe next month) I'll be able to get something better

LOL, you're making it tough on yourself.

Low-profile 18's make the optimal wheelspin grey area between bogging and a burnout very slim, and having a manual makes that even more difficult to control. If you still have your stock GXE wheels, try just throwing those back on for the track. It's not just the heaviness that hurts, but the difficulty in controlling the power also.

oh yea, I still have old 15" steel ones, and a pair of BFG drag radials will come pretty soon too

on the other hand, my launching and shifting skills are still something to work on. my first manual car, dam, it's only my second car overall...

Dont beat yourself up too much, it was just a first time to the track. Bein at 2700' altitude doesnt help times either Still fun tho, even to watch what other people can run, like that STI.

bad time = no problem. Fun and fun only. I still somoked all of them civics lol. Fun = LOTS, especially running with SS, Carrera and that STI.

As of now, my plans are these: Berk intake - arrived, needs to be installed.
Y-pipe - hopefully the GD goes thru for Warpspeed
And a pair of good drag radials.
