was it 00 the stang go bumped to 260/265 hp? Anyways, I've had a run with one of those and it was dead even, but the kid probly didnt know how to shift. Those cars can run low 14's fairly easily. The older GT's only have like 215 hp I believe and are not very fast. Quick off the line cause they gots some nice torque, but thats where it ends. Either way, the Stang has a good chance against ya
Yeah I dont see the big deal with those cars. I took a GT from a roll and kept on pulling. It's hard to tell though; they're not always GTs, they sometimes just have badges, wheels, and ground effects, like the focus I saw with a Type R badge . I know they take well to mods, getting into the 12s with nothing but exhaust, intake, chip, and a little weight reduction has been done before. I just hate the cheap "plastic" feel they have when you drive one. Just my opinion.
agreed who knows what you are lining up against, i certainly dont know my mustangs and have no idea what body styles are certain year models.
Which also further complicates what modded mustangs are running versus stock.

16's - If you are running 16's then hope its a v6 stang and you both need a beating ! LOL who knows and who cares !
Mid to High 15's - Im going to say find a lucky rabbits foot ! Chances are any max is going down !
Low 15's - well your getting there but still going to get your butt handed to you.
High 14's - Better chance, but like we were saying , who knows what you are racing. If its the new GT, we still lose this one.
Mid 14's - This is where you have half a chance. With some attitude and FWD power you might whip a few ! LOL !
Low 14's - This is were I would start to feel better. You could certainly surprise a few with some 14.2's !
High 13's - Hey your cooking now ! Get in there and rope some stangs !!! YEEHAW !
I had the new GT in mind, and I really dont know what they are running. The stangs I see at the track are running 14.0-14.9 but i couldnt tell you the year or if they have mods. O and if they have mods ..good luck !! They are mean as sin !
You know what else, you're racing a MUSTANG with a MAXIMA. You're the underdog here; you're expected to lose. If you were to win, people's jaws drop and you look like an f 'ing hero, even if it was just a 14. You beating a known sports coupe with a family sedan earns you props. If you loose, so what? You were beaten by a car notorious for it's drag racing ability, no ones going to hold that against you. That's the beauty of modding a family sedan.

Well put. Thats why when I beat a 02 stang GT last summer, the kids drivin it refused to look my way at the next light. I rolled my window down and everything, wanted to say nice race, but no acknoledgement at all - they must been very, very embarassed. He probly thought his car was the shiznit till he got OWNED by a grandpa car Bet the poor kid still cries himself to sleep at night! haha j/k
i think its the 99's that got the HP bump to 260. so 98 and down there slow especially if its an auto then your pretty much garanteed a win
theres nothing i love more than taking mustangs, especially with punk kids driving that have girls in the car they laugh when i pull up and then the laughing stops
The older ones are even more nasty. They have lost most of their value and mods are even cheaper than the OHV models. I had a stock '88 LX with H-pipe and UDP with stock gears, tires and mufflers and it ran 13.67 @ 102.9 mph at Rockingham NC in the middle of the summer. So, look out for anything pre '94; they have the old 5 liter roller with 300 ft lbs of torque stock.
It's really a crap shoot. I took a '94-'98 'Stang GT which definately was an auto, but had some pipes on it (it was dark, couldn't get a look, but you can hear them). The only way I had it was that he had extremely heavy dubs on his car...and that I powerbraked like I wanted my transmission dead...
Being a mustang guy who previously had a supercharged h/c/i 1995 Mustang GTS and now an 03 Cobra, I can at least answer a few of the questions concerning the mustangs. The 94-95 Mustangs had the 5.0 rated at 215/275. Mine had 2.73 gears and though I never ran it at the track stock, it was a dog with those gears. I'm guessing on a good day under the right conditions, high 14's @93-94 might have been possible. I hate to magazine race but the only times I have are from mags like MM&FF. Best time I saw was 14.3X@94.X bone stock. I would say my 04 Maxima would take it maybe not in the quarter (auto) but on the top end, stock for stock. The 96-97 had 215/275 while the 98 had 225/285. The 99+ have 265/302 and IMO would beat the likes of my 04 Maxima. Good friend has one and I get to drive it once in a while. The 5.0's are easily modded with their huge aftermarket following and small things like gears, pullies, timing increase, can make them a bit quicker out of the box.

i've beaten this one modded 5.0 by running 14.1...this 5.0 i ran against had drag radials and ran 14.3. one of my best drag races. i was so surprised because his big sounding V8 was shaking my door. our reaction times were almost identical as well. i just got the holeshot and never saw his fender since. =P stock 5.0's usually run mid 14s-15 nowadays. in regards to the newer style, i've raced a GT. it really depends on the driver. i had a very bad launch, ran 14.7 and lost by about 1-2 lengths. i rematched the very next round and was still behind due to a bad launch. i ended up winning by a front clip lol. again probably due to the driver. if you get a rocketing 2.0-2.2 launch you have a very good chance at winning provided you have a good RT and don't miss a gear. then again, you have to have a ringer from the factory like my '97. =) my .02.
auto gt 99+ gt and a 02 through 04 maxima would be actualy a good run.. the auto maximas with "good drivers" run mid 14s.. me personly 14.48 with my 04 stock se auto "and getting better" where a stock 99+ gt runs the same.. i have a friend with a 01 gt and i beat him everytime at the track in my 04 stock se.. a well driven stock gt 5spd will do high 13s stock an avg driver low 14s. bone stock... a stock 94 through 98 gt auto will do anywhere from high 14s to 15s.. a stick should do a 14.5 or so again well driven
I still get excited driving my Maxima. I currently drive a 440rwhp Cobra (heavy as a tank though) as well as my last stang which was a 470rwhp beast. Though certainly not as quick as a Ducati, it certainly isn't boring driving when putting the pedal to the floor.

Nothing's boring about 470rwhp. but that's a far cry from the VQ's 265 at the crank. Not that the Maxima's boring. I just don't get all the fervor about its 1/4 mile times, I guess.
