2000 auto times

I went to GLD near Chicago a week ago and came back disappointed. It was my first time at the track and all I can say is that it's tougher than I imagined! I ran 4 runs that day with the air temp around 70. The car is completely stock, auto, plus 1 sub and I also had a passanger. Here's my best that day:

R/T 1.053
60 2.422
330 6.771
1/8 10.307
MPH 70.20
1000 13.332
1.4 15.922
MPH 86.73

I manually shifted and brake torqued, but was too concerned with the tree that I forgot to look down see what RPM I was launching at. (I looked like a baby rabbit off the line) Anyway, some insight would be helpful. Thanks.

Dave.

Re: 2000 auto times

they're not TOO bad for a stock 00 auto. Most run 16s stock. don't worry bout your r/t. that does not affect the 1/4 time. stay at the light, take your time, check your rpms, and get the launch down right. Then work on your reaction time. Rev high enough so that when you launch, you hear a nice chirp. YOu will not spin more than like 1sec cause your auto. Just practice.

Weight reduction will also help: spare tire, tools, seats if needed)

First time I went last year I ran between a 15.9 and 16.4 for my 97 SE so you aren't doing too bad.

My first was in the 16s, now I'm at 15.2 in my auto. You'll get there.

Also, don't ride with a passenger. they probably added at least a .2 or .3 to your time depending on their weight.

Yea thats a good idea. He weighs almost 200 so thats a lot of dead weight. I need to work launching and getting rid of the mad wheel hop.

Dave.
In a closed test session for High Performance Pontiac, my dad's 1996 Bonneville S/C ran 14.6s @ upper 93.x mph. I added a 160 lb. person (friend who came along) after a 30 min. cooldown and the thing ran 15.3 @ 91.x mph. On an older 1993 Bonneville I ran 16.281 @ 82.11 mph and after adding a 200+ lb. person my times slowed to 16.9x @ ?80.xx? mph. Never underestimate the effect of weight. All you need to do is look at convertible or station wagon versions of coupes or sedans and see the tremendous e.t. penalty (mostly caused by weight addition and slightly caused by aero penalties).

Stall it at 1800, manually shift I ran 15.5 stock. With the Injen and Y-pipe I ran 15.1, so your doing alright. I ran some 16s in my day, alot has to do with the track and also get some of that weight out.

First off, whats a GAB?

Secondly, thanks for all the advice everyone. I believe I forgot to mention that my passanger weighed 190 lbs. plus I had a sub weighing 20 lbs. Just those two taken out, I think my times would drop into the mid 15's.

Dave.

You mind giving me some pointers on how you managed to get your times from 16's to 15.2 in an auto? Thanks in advance.

I also manually shifted. Takes some time to get good at it, but its most definitely quicker than leaving it in drive.
