Man do you know anything about cars? Fuel filters last anywhere from 30k-60k and spark plugs last from 30k-60k depending if they are copper or platinum.

He was telling the other guy how long it had been since he changed those items, not how long they last.

We don't know what mods you have.
Assuming you only have an Intake, then that's actually a pretty good time. I ran a 16.3 with an intake and VI only, airmattdog ran a 16.6 with intake, and 98blackmaxwind ran a 16.4...I can't think of other examples right now...but there are others....depending on if people want to admit them.
Looks normal to me.

When someone says "spark plugs last 10k, fuel filter last 1k" they are not stating how long they have it for, they are telling how long they last.

I agree that he stated it incorrectly.

I ran a 16.19 @ 86mph with a 2.38 - 60ft. Completely Stock 96 GXE Auto with about 1/2 tank of gas. It was a pretty humid 80 degree Texas night too.
Besides this was when I had about 56k miles and prior to doing the 60k service. If I run again - I am sure I can easily break into the 15's.
You should be able to run better than a 16.4 assuming you got a decent 60ft. Like bags533 said - post the entire slip. It may help figure out where you are losing power.

He didn't state anything incorrectly.
He stated something and everyone assumed differently.
I understood right away.
1k on a fuel filter? Seriously?

high 15s is what i have been led to expect, and it sounds like some of the people here are getting that. thats what im shooting for anyway.
anyway here in san antonio the elevation is not more than 600ft, mostly less i think.
and btw i may have been skimping on words, but i meant that those things had been replaced that many miles ago.
if a fuel filter only lasted 1k noone would drive, and if i was that much of a newb i wouldnt be able to read a timeslip anyway..
never can seem to get a good launch, havent tried lowering tire pressure yet, running some michelin x-1s at about 35 psi.
my gtech doesnt show 60 foots, but a know a good launch from a bad one. and for everyone whos going to dismiss the time because its a gtech, dont bother telling me what you think. it runs within a tenth of track time according to my friends who have gone to the track and then run with my gtech.
its also very consistent between runs. the bad rap is mostly user error.
anyway the average run is actually a 16.7 have run 16.4 2-3 times tho.
is there anything to be gained shifting 1-2 manually? in d it shifts at about 6200, held 1st once to 6700 and it shifted hard as hell, couldnt tell overall if it made a diff tho because of a bad launch that run
btw we're keeping it in third, overdrive disabled.
car has run the same time totally stock with 87 octane gas, and with a modified airbox and intake resonator eliminator pipe (is there a term for that thing?) and 93 octane, after resetting the computer too. does the came run time using the different octanes indicate a problem?
thanks for all your help.

Why don't you take the car to RCR or even Alamo raceway and do an actual run or two. Not that I am skeptical about the gtech or anything, but between your 60ft, ET's and trap speeds - there are a lot of guys on this board that can give you a pretty good assesment of where or why you are loosing power.

believe it or not, the owner of rcr hates us. lol.
anyway, the whole thing is that at this point in time we cant justify spending the money at the track. expenses and such
and to tell you the truth, i dont own the car.. i own a 16.2 second 93 dynasty Cardomain
you can see the maxima on page 4 tho. its my gf's father's. i own the gtech, but not the car. im just trying to solve this little mystery on his behalf.
believe me, if i could take the car anytime and run it repeatedly and experiment with tire settings and shift points, i would, but for now i only have the maybe 10 runs weve tried to work with.
so if the general consensus is that better driving can get us to high 15s, then i guess we'll just keep trying.we do plan on putting some better tires on the front soon, and maybe experimenting with pressures after that, but i still think this car doesnt pull like some other maxima's ive ridden in at autocross

maybe bringing this post back from the dead but this problem has NOT gotten better.
if i thought this car felt similar to other auto maxes ive ridden in i wouldnt bother asking fyi.
has a noise suspected to be timing chain/tensioner slack.. could it put cam timing far enough off to cost major time?
today, it ran similar gtech et/mph to my 96 2.5 v6 avenger... NOT normal.

what was your 60 foot time?
don't be mad..
i ran a 17.1 in a 97 5spd with an intake
followed by a 16.1
driving skills count
even in an automatic.
For one, i was spinning like crazy.. i think i am a great shifter but it's tricky to launch this thing especially with very negative camber and shot tires.
