Queston for standard tranny owners about shifting when you race...

When you guys race do you keep on your foot on the gas and not take it off when you shift? I have heard of some people doing this, i think they call it powershifitng. I would imagine it would not too very good for your tranny and clutch and dont know if it would help either. Just curious...

Im confused, i thought it was normal to take your foot off while shifting....from what i understand...powershifting is when you keep your foot on the gas while shifting, but this is stresful on the tranny

your grammar still doesn't make sense...but i get what your saying.

doing this during the 1-2 shift will result in LOTS of wheelspin
the people who powershift do it on the 2-3 and 3-4 shifts.

i wouldn't recommend it tho...it probably doesn't help much if anything compared to the stress on the tranny

chances are you might miss gears doing it that way. plus the clutch will slip a lot more making you run slower. also, i know someone who threw a valve doing that in his SRpowered S13.

and if you can hit the times that VQdriver has hit "granny shifting" than its obvious theres no reason to powershift

when i first started racing i tried this... and i would not recommend it. my clutch got hot as hell and started slipping after a couple of runs. what i try to do now is just let up on the gas, but not all the way. i don't know if is the best way or not, but i don't get that nasty clutch smell anymore.

exactly. the way i do it, the motion is so fast that it seems like i'm not letting off the gas entirely. it's like a quick pump and the shift is complete. i shift as quickly as possible trying not to let the engine skip a beat.
