Damn, this close to 14's

I took my stock 96 SE 5 spd to the track again. Here are my first numbers:

Quick question RE Dashboards

The new numbers:

2.26 60' 15.01 @ 90.83

The only differece from before is I took out the spare, jack, jumper cables and ran only 2-3 gallons of fuel (right before the warning light came on). The car now only weighed 3000 lbs w/o me 3155 with me. I did also change my shift points to 6500 1-2 6200 2-3 and 6000 3-4. I want to thank Nealoc187 and Soon2BMaxed for informing me about the proper shift points.

The weather was slightly different. 81 degrees, 78% humidity, and the same baro 29.98.

I pretty much launched the same as before, approx 2700 with very little clutch slip.

I backed up the numbers with a 2.36 60' 15.06 @ 91.0 (that would have been my 14 sec run if I didn't try to launch so hard).

I did find something very interesting.

These cars are VERY receptive to the heat of the motor. I was running 15.8's with 2.4x shorts and scraching my head figuring out whats wrong. The motor was running normal temps, right in between H and C (man I wish Nissan would have given us numbers on the temp gauge)

I bought a bag of ice and placed it on the intake and let the car sit for an hour before I ran. The temp gauge showed about the 1/4 way up from C with a cool to the touch intake on both the 15.0x runs. I'm not sure what the actual temp is, but I can definitly see a difference in the numbers and a SOTP difference. It is also much harder to launch the car since there seems to be more wheel hop with the added power.

I'm still very happy with the numbers. I will be going next week with the same setup, but running a switch to manually turn the fans on shooting for 14's, stock

You said you put a bag of ice on the intake!? What exactly do you mean? I'm assuming that it's the intake box you put it on.

Hey, that's impressive! Looks like you'll be going down the same path I did. Most of the folks on the board who run low 14's w/ I/Y/E started off running high 14's stock.

I simply put the bag of ice on top of the intake manifold in between rounds.

you're doing very good. i remember my very first run ever was 15.1@92mph. i was very happy just to do better than the motortrend time. with more practice you'll get into the mid/high 14's with just a cone filter. good luck.

Try holding third gear. I know we're losing power after 5600 rpm's but for some reason I get my best times red-lining each gear.
Also, you'll do better when the humidity drops.

I tried running out 3rd gear and got a best time of 15.2, and I was running at almost 6500rpm when I crossed the line, a 4th gear shift would have helped me out I think...

all this shifting information is very helpful. Thanks guys, someone should post a thread of how to properly run when on the track. Gears to shift, what rpm to start on (in his case 2700)...dam 2700? my tires would spin like hell if i started taht high, maybe cause he got stock and i have a few mods....

Damn... I can't wait to get this damn knock sensor replaced and finally see what my car does stock. I'm hoping for low 15's, but damn, 14's would be sweet as hell.

My car reacted better by shifting earlier then redline. You just have to make sure that you shift BEFORE the traps start (the last 66 feet of track). When the car runs slow cause its hot, I'll push 3rd to redline cause it doesn't have the power to allow me to shift into 4th early enough.

As for launching, I do use a 2700 launch, but not a clutch dump, rather a clutch slip not allowing the rpms to drop below 2200 rpm.
