I just cannot break into the 14's!!! getting mad. need help

alright i've been to the track several times now and i'm disappointed.
Bone stock VE 5spd. should run 15.2

I never took my car to the track stock. my clutch went out before i could. So i had a ACT Street Clutch put in with Aluminum FLywheel and Short Throw shifter.
I went the track with just those and ran a best of 15.6 and i think i got down to 15.5 but not sure
I went alittle more and got a 15.4 with a 2.33 60' time. and i was trapping out at 89.5 mph.

Well i ended up putting on a UDP and advancing my timing. I lost .1 second with the UDP and Advanced Timing!!!! what the hell? the best i could get was a 15.38 with a 2.38 60'.

Then i installed a Y-pipe and Hi-flow Cat the day of a race, becuase that was when i got it that morning. So i went out and i ran a best of 15.2 with a 2.34 60' time. Another tenth of a second !! and i relize it takes time for the ECU to adjust.

So then yesterday i went back to the track with almost 1000 miles on the Y-pipe and Hi-flow cat.
can you guess waht i ran??? if you geussed a 15.1 you are correct !!!
i'm ****ed. a tenth of a second with a Y-pipe and Hiflow cat??
and that was with a 2.35 60' @ 90mph again 1mph faster with a Y-pipe and Hiflow cat?? whats going on?. Later in the night the temperature dropped to the low 60's. I ran the best 60' time i have ever run the last race of the night i got a 2.282 and i only ended up running a 15.237!!!! @ 90.81 mph

here are my best 2 runs ever.

R/T .774
60' 2.282
330 6.374
1/8 9.790
MPH 71.79
1000 12.745
1/4 15.237
MPH 90.81

my best run ever.

R/T .819
60' 2.353
330 6.363
1/8 9.759
MPH 72.00
1000 12.703
1/4 15.194
MPH 90.24

I'm totally lost. I know i'm not the best shifter in the world. and i'm not the best at launching but i still don't think i'm doing bad. I SHOULD be in the 14's by now. i'm starting to suspect that something is wrong with my car. Maybe my injectors or Knock sensor?
it has new plugs and fuel filter. I haven't put the new PCV valve on yet. any ideas? cause i'm fresh out. Thanks

First of all, where did you get that a stock VE should run 15.2 ? I know magazines have the 95-96 VQ 5spd running 15.2 stock, but you can't go by what magazines run.
Also, I've noticed that you haven't mentioned any type of intake. Do you have one? If not, getting one will get you into the 14s. For the Y pipe to work at the best of its ability, it needs an intake to bring more air into the engine. I know that getting my Stillen lowered my times by .5

Your expectations are way too high. A stock VE 5spd should run around 15.4-15.5. With that in mind, you've shaved 3 tenths with just a y-pipe. That's good. That's how much I shaved.

So, are you saying that you had a base time of 15.2 with your stock VE? If so, wow! Bump your timing a few degrees and that should knock off another tenth... maybe two. I shaved 2 tenths with just a timing increase. And plus, it's hot outside. Go back when it's cooler and you will see improvement. There's probably nothing wrong with your car.

Another question, are you running those times with a warm engine? Or are you letting it cool down a great deal (40 minutes) between runs? Thanks.

I have NO intake what-so-ever. no K&N or anything.
magazine times for a stock VE 5spd are 15.3.
Bryan H has seen a bone stock VE run 15.2.
with ACT Clutch, Flywheel, STS, UDP, and advanced timing
i hit 15.2
My engine is cool alittle. I've ran over and over about 4 times and kept dropping my times from 15.7 to 15.3
with a VERY hot engine.
I had been running around all day and the longest the car had been turned of was like 20 minutes, when i was at home, then the 30 mile drive to the track got into the tech line, and went on 5 consecutive runs, and got the 15.3 on my last run. Then the last run of the night when it was cool and my car sat for about 40 minutes i ran a 15.2

Now with Y-pipe i'm running 15.1
I applied a Elevation table to my times, and at sea level i'm running around 14.6 to 14.8
i don't know what the exact level is at our track but i'll find out.

I'm ordering a CAI as soon as they become available through WSP

You need an intake pretty badly. With a y-pipe, you are getting the exhaust out faster, but aren't getting air in faster without an intake. Plus, those times aren't bad in hot weather, wait till it cools down.

Doesn't the VE make power all the way to redline? Maybe try shifting at redline on a few runs and see what happens? I think 15.2s is a bit optimistic for a stock VE unless you are an incredible driver.

Yeah i has variable everything and it should make power all the way to redline. But i've also heard that it doesn't.
So i dunno
i just went by what Matt93Se told me to shift at.

Dude at that elevation the times will be off anywhere from .4-.7 depending on weather. Also shift that thing at like 7, right before the rev limiter 6400 is still juicing. Make sure you powershift into 2nd and the rpm should be over 4 on your shift, right back into the juice, do the same for 3rd and that is all you need. Also get a CAI, if you do this, there is not doubt in my mind with some practice you should be mid-high 14s. Driving the car means the most.

I've tried powershifting.
And i don't gain anything
i shift pretty damn quick
hell sometimes i shift to second and the whole front of my car lunges up and doesn't make a squeel at all. feels like i'm going to rip the front end off.
Sometime when i shift into 3rd it bangs and does a quick grind cause my synchros aren't the best but it goes in pretty fast.
I'm not the fastest but i'm not slow by anymeans
me and matt have compared slips and were almost identical. I'm even a hair faster off the line. But i seem to loose it in the shift to second and from there out it stays about the same.
I'm worried i dont' have my Topend that i should. Cause i'm trapping low
90?
you of all people Dmontz knows that's slow for a VE with the mods i have

I think the biggest problem here is altitude. In Palmdale here in SoCal it is about 2800-3000ft elevation and the track is .9 off...when compared to running at a near sea level track like Pomona or Carlsbad, not that much near sea but more than Palmdale. The formula for Palmdale is minus .9 and add 1-2mph for your trap.

I think you are running right about where I would expect... if you can get down to a 2.2 60" then you may scrape into the 14s.. also look for ways to lose weight... I also recommend an intake as others have said

I was gonna ask if you get bad wheel spin or hop at take off and after reading a post by Andi many, many months ago, it was determined that w/ the stock power curve and the 5 speed gear ratios the shift points are probably best at 1-2 6500, 2-3 6300, and then wind out 3rd since you'll lose about 1/4 sec w another shift. I've had my best results w/ these shift points. My best is a 14.87 w/ my 95 with Stillen Intake, WSP y, Intrax/Tokico, 17X7s w/ Falken GRBs and a 1/4 tank of gas - I launched at 1700, got minimal spin and used the above shift points. I trapped at 93.42 mph and had a 60' of 2.28. I don't know what my elevation is but it was at Capitol Raceway in Crofton, Md. and it was 80 something degrees out.

elevation does a lot!!! at commerce, ga...we're at 1100'. ran a 15.19 but if i was at sea level, i'd be running a 14.99 i think. found some website where u input the elevation into the calculation. so at 2700, i would definitely see 14's. find a track closer to sea level and i think u would be very satisfied...
